Men's Squash Sweeps Swarthmore In Season Opener, 9-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's squash team (1-0) opened up the 2022-23 season with a convincing 9-0 win over Swarthmore (0-1) on Friday evening at the GIAC Squash Courts as College Squash Association play began for both sides. Haverford is now 16-0 all-time against The Garnet in a series that dates back to the start of the 1994 season.

Quinton Crawford allowed just two points to Abraham Porschet at the top flight (11-1, 11-0, 11-1) while Peter Lehv took a straightforward sweep of Paris Shan (11-0, 11-1, 11-0). Noah Tunis similarly blanked Allison Shan at the third position (11-0, 11-0, 11-0). Further down the ladder, Ben Schiltz swept Ian Chen (11-2, 11-3, 11-0) and John Collins earned a sweep over Leo Sun (11-0, 11-1, 11-3). Garret Fantini was also an 11-0, 11-0, 11-0 winner over Ryunah Kang at the ninth flight. 

A trio of Haverford players were making their debuts for the college, with Aaryaman Jaising (Mumbai, India) not allowing a point to Devyani Mahajan at the fourth flight (11-0, 11-0, 11-0) while Kai Schinaman (Tokyo, Japan) allowed just two points to Owen Sears at the fifth flight (11-0, 11-0, 11-2). Matt Sullivan (Towson, Md.) also made his debut at the eighth flight, allowing just one point to Owen Mortner (11-1, 11-0, 11-0). 

The Fords will now host the annual Alumni Match on Saturday, November 5 with matches slated to begin at 1 p.m.The regular season will begin in earnest on Friday, November 11 as the Fords host Drexel at 5 p.m. on the GIAC Squash Courts. The Fords will host the Dragons for the first time since the 2013 season.
