No. 31 Men's Squash Celebrates Senior Day With Sweep of No. 38 Bucknell, 9-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The No. 31 Haverford College men's squash team (7-7) honored its senior captains, Quinton Crawford and John Collins, prior to first serve against No. 38 Bucknell (6-5) on Saturday afternoon. Once the action of the courts started, Haverford gave the senior class something to celebrate as it registered a 9-0 statement win to close out the home portion of the 2022-23 campaign Saturday at the GIAC Squash Courts.

Haverford earned sweeps at eight of nine spots on the ladder, with Crawford allowing just 12 total points to his opponent Andrew Rebak at the top flight (11-5, 11-4, 11-3). Collins was also a winner via sweep at the seventh flight,  taking down Harrison Sotir (11-3, 11-9, 11-6).

In addition to the seniors closing out their home careers with some straightforward victories, the Fords impressed with a big matchup at the second flight. Noah Tunis got past David Hitzrot (11-5, 11-6, 11-6 with relative ease.  First-year Aaryaman Jaising settled in for a sweep of Cooper B. Pearce (11-6, 11-4, 11-3) at the third flight, and Peter Lehv was also a winner at number four against Tarquin Hanson, delivering a sweep and allowing just 10 total points in doing so (11-2, 11-7, 11-1).

Kai Schinaman grabbed the fifth-flight victory over Will Vincent, responding in epic fashion after dropping the second game to his Bison opponent. Vincent took a 11-9 victory to tie the match at one game each, but Schinaman then blanked Vincent in the third game, with the 11-0 win serving as a prelude to an 11-6 win in the closeout fourth game. Ben Schiltz allowed just five points in a dominating showing over Linus Maurer (11-5, 11-0, 11-1).

Matt Sullivan similarly showed his mettle, as he allowed just 10 points to Eli Webb at the eighth flight, and Garret Fantini held down the ninth spot with a commanding win over Daniel Kloner, as Kloner mustered just two points as Fantini displayed poise and rhythm to put a tally in the Haverford column.

Haverford has now won its seventh consecutive match over Bucknell, and the third consecutive 9-0 sweep in the series. Haverford is 7-4 all-time against the Bison.

Men's Squash heads out to Franklin & Marshall for the Centennial Conference round robin on Saturday, February 11. The Fords will match up with the host No. 16 Diplomats (10:30 a.m.) and No. 29 Dickinson (1:30 p.m.) in the final tune-ups before the CSA Team Championships which are slated for the final weekend of February in the Hartford, Connecticut area.
