California swing opens with loss to No. 20 Pomona-Pitzer for men's tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Haverford College men's tennis team fell to 20th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer late Tuesday evening in the opening match of the Fords' trip to the West Coast over spring break.

Haverford drops to 0-2 on the season while the Sagehens improve to 4-0.

The Fords' Kevin Caulfield gave his best in trying to pull off an upset of nationally-ranked Tommy Meyer at No. 1 singles. Caulfield swept through the first set winning 6-2 but lost by the same score in the second set.

The pair battled point by point in the third, tie-breaking, set but Meyer was able to come out on top, 8-6, for the match victory.

Will Garrett also put up a strong fight for the Fords at No. 6 singles, dropping a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Alex Groth.

Haverford plays Chapman University in its next match at 2 p.m. PST Thursday.
