Singles sweep leads men's tennis past McDaniel

HAVERFORD, Pa. – A sweep of the six singles matches propelled Haverford College's men's tennis team to a 7-2 Centennial Conference victory over visiting McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon at The Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center inside Alumni Field House.

Trailing 2-1 after doubles action, the Fords (5-3) steamrolled through the Green Terror's singles offerings with each of the six wins coming in straight sets.

McDaniel (4-3) surprised the Fords with doubles victories at Nos. 1 and 3, as Haverford's Robert Homan and Sloan Millman salvaged the lone point for the home team with a win at No. 2.

Singles action was all Haverford, though.

Senior captain Matt Romei raced through a 6-3, 6-1 win at 1-singles over McDaniel's Brian Kron, and Andy Dougherty made quick work of the Green Terror's Seth McFall at No. 2 in a 6-3, 6-3 win.

Homan doubled up on points for the day with a win at 3-singles and John Cummings' win at No. 4 clinched the match for Haverford.

Both Harrison Elbert and Joshua Lederman added wins at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, to finalize the score.

The Fords return to action Wednesday, April 2 with a trip to play Washington College in another league contest.
