Men's Tennis Defeats USciences, 8-1

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team racked up eight victories against Division II University of the Sciences on Monday evening. The match saw the Fords (6-3) sweep through the doubles competition before finishing up the victory with five wins in singles play.

Ishaan Prinz and Caleb Mayer were both double winners for the Fords against their Division II foes. Prinz teamed up with Dais Nakayama in the No. 2 doubles position for one of the two convincing 8-1 victories by Haverford in the first wave of matches. Prinz bookended his night with a 6-4, 6-2 straight set win at No. 3 singles.

Mayer teamed up with Eli Phelps to form the Fords' No. 3 doubles pairing. In the most tightly contested match of the night, Haverford's No. 3 duo evenly split the first 16 games in the match. However, Mayer and Phelps emerged victorious by taking seven of the 12 tiebreaker points. Mayer capped his night with a pair of 6-2 wins at No. 4 singles.

Haverford also picked up an 8-1 win in doubles with the top pairing of Luis Acaba and Harrison Elbert. Focusing solely on doubles play, Acaba and Elbert moved to 3-2 together at No. 1 doubles this spring.

Zack Mason added the Fords' most dominant singles effort of the night as he completed a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 2 position. Benjamin Soloway and Jeremy Waterkotte also added wins for Haverford in the final two singles slots. Soloway picked up his highest ranked win of the year with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 5. Waterkotte notched his first collegiate singles win inside the top six with a 7-6 (4) win in the opening set before closing his No. 6 singles win with a 6-3 second set win.

Men's tennis will now jump back into Centennial Conference play with two more home matches this week. The week continues on Wednesday when Muhlenberg comes to town for a 4 p.m. tilt. Johns Hopkins comes to campus on Saturday. First serve in that match is scheduled for noon.
