HAVERFORD, Pa. – Dais Nakayama pulled out a 10-point tiebreak victory against No. 27 Swarthmore in the annual rivalry match. However, the No. 27 Garnet proved their national prowess up and down the lineup in the 8-1 victory.

With the latest result, the Fords locked in their position of No. 4 in the Centennial Conference Tournament. That seed will get them a first round home date with No. 5 Dickinson on Wednesday, April 29.

Nakayama's win came against the No. 19 player in the ITA Atlantic South Rankings. After a tough 6-2 defeat in his opening set of No. 2 singles, Nakayama knotted the score with a tiebreak win in the second set. Following an even split of the first 12 games, the Fords' freshman collected seven of the 12 tiebreak points to force the ultimate tiebreaker. In that 10-point tiebreak, Nakayama was a 10-7 winner for Haverford's win on the day.

His win at No. 2 singles came on the heels of a near victory in doubles. Teaming up with Luis Acaba for the No. 1 doubles match, the Fords' top duo battled back-and-forth with its Swarthmore counterparts before falling by an 8-6 margin.

In addition to Nakayama's success in singles, Caleb Mayer also forced a 10-point tiebreaker at No. 6 singles. He won his opening set by a 6-4 score before his opponent answered with a 6-3 win in the second. The Garnet's No. 6 singles player won 10 of the 15 tiebreaker points to claim that match. Ishaan Prinz also made Swarthmore sweat out every point at No. 5 singles, but ultimately fell in a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 match.

Men's tennis will have one final home match before hosting the opening round of the conference tournament on Wednesday. The final home date of the regular season is set for Monday against Rutgers-Camden. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
