Elbert Named Centennial Conference Player of the Week

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Harrison Elbert has been named the Centennial Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after his two wins on Saturday helped the Fords to down No. 29 Franklin & Marshall. Elbert, a team co-captain, won his doubles match in the No. 1 position and pulled out a three-set victory at No. 4 singles to help clinch the Fords' victory.

Playing at the top of the doubles lineup with his fellow co-captain Luis Acaba, the Fords' top pairing rolled to an 8-2 win – the most convincing score across all three doubles matches. When paired together this spring, the 2015 first-team All-Centennial Conference duo is 8-2 in matches at the top of the lineup. This includes a 3-1 mark against Centennial Conference competition.

Elbert helped to lock down the final team points against the nationally-ranked Diplomats with a three-set win at No. 4 singles. Elbert took his first set by a hard-fought 6-4 score, but went to a decisive third set after a 6-1 second set fell in favor of his opponent. The tight matchup saw the No. 4 players split the first 12 games of the third set before Elbert won in the tiebreak by a 7-4 margin. Elbert is also 8-2 in singles during the spring season with a 4-1 mark against conference foes.

Men's tennis will host its final home match of the regular season this Tuesday when Ursinus comes to campus for a 4 p.m. start. A win Tuesday would put the Fords in position to clinch a share of the Centennial Conference regular season title this Saturday at 1 p.m. when the team travels to rival Swarthmore.
