Men's Tennis Well Represented in Centennial Conference Awards

Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team was well represented on the All-Centennial Conference team with the conference's rookie of the year, three all-conference singles players, two all-conference doubles pairings and a member of the all-sportsmanship team.

Luis Acaba earned inclusion on the All-Centennial Conference singles team for the fourth consecutive season. His sophomore through senior seasons were each first-team All-CC recognition. Acaba was also the conference's rookie of the year during his career. Although slowed by injury, Acaba went 6-2 at No. 1 singles during the spring. That record included a win over the No. 16 player in the region to start the spring season.

Teaming up with Harrison Elbert in doubles, Haverford's top doubles tandem earned first-team All-CC mention for the second straight season. The two senior co-captains went 9-4 in the top doubles position, a mark that included a 4-2 record against conference competition. Acaba was also a second-team selection in doubles as a sophomore. The Fords' dynamic duo at one point racked up a winning streak that reached eight consecutive victories together. Elbert was also named to the Centennial Conference's All-Sportsmanship Team.

Josh Moskovitz became Haverford's second Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year as he followed in the footsteps of co-captain Acaba. Moskovitz was also a second-team All-Centennial Conference selection among all singles players this spring. The Fords' standout freshman won 11 straight matches to start his spring season and was elevated to the No. 2 spot in the Fords' lineup. After a three-set victory to start the year against No. 38 TCNJ, Moskovitz ran off 10 straight set victories in a row to cap his hot start.

Dais Nakayama earned honorable mention All-Centennial Conference in singles after he was a second-team all-conference performer last season. Nakayama won matches in the No. 1 through No. 3 positions during the spring. His win at No. 1 singles came in the victory over Muhlenberg, while four of his defeats came in heart-breaking third sets or 10-point tiebreaks. Four of his five victories during the spring came via straight sets.

Teaming up at No. 2 doubles, the all-conference singles players of Moskovitz and Nakayama added to their resumes as a second-team All-CC doubles pairing. Nakayama and Moskovitz were at their best in conference play when they went 5-2. All of those matches came at the No. 2 position with the exception of an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles against Gettysburg.

Men's tennis finished its season with 13 wins and placed third overall in the Centennial Conference. With that placement in the regular season standings, the Fords advanced to the conference semifinals for the sixth straight season. Haverford's 13 wins this spring matched the program's highest mark since the 2007 season when that team also won 13 dual meet matches.
