FULLERTON, Calif. – The Haverford College men's tennis team recorded its first win of the spring season during its trip to the west coast as the Fords defeated Hope International by an 8-1 score on Tuesday afternoon.

With these two programs meeting for the first time, Haverford spared little time in jumping out to an early lead in doubles. Already assured a point from Rob Kresch and Arnav Patodia as Hope International was unable to field a third doubles team, Raja Arul and David Kong quickly made it 2-0 as that pairing allowed just one game in the second doubles position. Arul and Kong were playing together for the first time in their rookie seasons.

The Fords nearly made it a clean sweep of doubles, but were topped by an 8-6 score in the top position. However, both Josh Moskovitz and Dais Nakayama came back strong in singles. Moskovitz was a 7-5, 6-2 winner in the top singles match. He is now 2-2 on the spring season. Nakayama recorded his first singles win of the spring with a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the second singles slot.

Eli Phelps and Ishaan Prinz each recorded their team-leading third victories of the spring in singles. Phelps, playing No. 4, allowed just three games during his match. Prinz was even more convincing in his win as he did not allow a game. Kevin Yan added his first win of the spring season at No. 3 singles by a 6-3, 7-5 score, while Nick Sweeney took the victory in the last spot by default.

Men's tennis will be back on the courts tomorrow at Whittier College for a 3 p.m. PST (6 p.m. EST) start. Whittier is currently ranked 10th in the ITA's West Regional. Haverford and Whittier made for the first time during the 2013 season with Whittier emerging victorious in that match four years ago.
