Kevin Yan Named CC Player of the Week

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Kevin Yan has been named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week, becoming the third different player on the Fords to win that honor this season. Yan, the 2017 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year, earned the award for the first time in his career.

Playing against a very tough schedule this past week, Yan went 3-0 in singles and won two more doubles matches. The Fords' first-team All-Centennial Conference singles player last season played No. 1 singles in the victories against Muhlenberg and The College of New Jersey. He won a 10-point tiebreak against the Mules and followed that up with a straight set victory during a big team win against TCNJ. Yan also got Haverford's only team point against No. 20 Case Western Reserve when he won by a 6-3, 6-4 score in the second singles match.

The Fords' sophomore was also victorious at No. 1 doubles alongside David Kong in the team's victories. The Yan/Kong pairing won 8-6 against Muhlenberg's top doubles team. Those two followed that win up with an 8-4 victory against TCNJ.

Yan is off to a 4-3 start in singles this year, with two victories in each of the top two positions in the singles lineup. He is currently leading the team with seven victories in doubles dating back to the fall. He has gone 6-3 during the spring season, playing most of his matches alongside Dais Nakayama where that duo is 4-2 in the middle doubles match.

Men's tennis is currently 6-4 overall with a perfect 2-0 record in Centennial Conference matches. The Fords are one of five remaining unbeaten teams in conference matches and will square off with two of those other remaining unbeaten teams this week. On Wednesday, Haverford will host Washington College in a 4 p.m. match. The Fords will travel to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday for a 12 p.m. first serve.
