Moskovitz Ranked No. 9 in Region, Joins Doubles Rankings with Yan

ITA Atlantic South Region Rankings

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team saw several of its players move up the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Region rankings this week. Josh Moskovitz moved up to No. 9 in the region for singles while he and Kevin Yan debuted at No. 14 in the regional doubles rankings. As a team, Haverford held its spot as No. 11 in the team rankings.

Taking eight players to the national championships from the region, Josh Moskovitz is certainly going to be in the discussion as he holds a 16-7 record at the top of Haverford's singles lineup. The No. 9 ranking for Haverford's senior co-captain comes as a result of a very strong season overall that started in the fall with a quarterfinal appearance at the ITA Regional Championships.

Since that strong start to the year, Moskovitz has picked up a pair of regionally-ranked wins that include a 6-4, 6-3 victory against then-No. 2 Vishnu Joshi of Johns Hopkins in the dual meet. He also defeated the No. 50 player in the entire country from New York University with a 6-2, 6-4 win to start his spring season. Thirteen of Moskovitz's 16 victories have come in straight sets.

In doubles, Moskovitz and Yan have combined for a 12-9 record together after they advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Regional Championships during the fall. Haverford's No. 1 pairing is 7-1 in its last eight matches and has two regionally-ranked wins during that stretch. Moskovitz and Yan recorded their first regionally-ranked victory this spring with a strong 8-2 result against Southern Virginia's then-No. 17 pairing in the region. Most recently, the Fords' top duo took down Swarthmore's No. 1 pairing which entered that match at No. 13 in the region.

Strong play at the top of the lineup has been a part of the strong campaign overall for the men's tennis program as the Fords are 11-7 overall with a 6-2 record in Centennial Conference play. As a team, Haverford holds regionally-ranked victories over Southern Virginia and Franklin & Marshall. Five of Haverford's seven defeats have come to nationally-ranked sides at the time of those matches while the other two losses came to teams that have since moved into the national rankings from when the first played the Fords.

With a playoff spot already secured, men's tennis has the inside track to a first-round bye and No. 3 seed overall in next week's conference tournament. The Fords can officially clinch that No. 3 seed with a win against Gettysburg this Saturday at 11 a.m. on Senior Day. Haverford will also host Scranton in a scheduled 3 p.m. match that will follow the Centennial Conference showdown with the Bullets.
