Josh Moskovitz Named CC Player of the Year to Highlight Men's Tennis Conference Honors

Centennial Conference release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Josh Moskovitz was named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year in men's tennis to highlight a slew of athletic awards for the Fords. Moskovitz was joined by Kevin Yan and George Jiang on the All-Centennial Conference singles list, while Moskovitz/Yan and Pranav Krishnan/Jiang were named all-conference in doubles. All of these awards came under the guidance of Centennial Conference Coach of the Year Brendan Kincaid who earned that distinction in his first year with the program.

With his player of the year award, Moskovitz becomes just the second Ford in school history to garner that recognition as he joins Tom Kinrade '09 who won the award in 2008. Moskovitz also joined Kinrade and former teammate Luis Acaba '16 as one of three Haverford players who has earned first-team All-Centennial Conference in singles three times during their careers. Only Kevin Caulfield '13 earned first-team honors during each of his four seasons with the Fords. Moskovitz was a second-team All-CC selection in singles during his first-year when he won Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year accolades. Moskovitz also received first-team All-Centennial Conference honors in doubles for the second straight season and finishes as a four-time All-CC performer in that discipline as he earned second-team recognition his first two years.

Ranked No. 9 in the ITA Atlantic South regional singles rankings, Moskovitz went 18-7 in singles at the top of the lineup this year. He advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Regional in the fall and went 6-2 overall in Centennial Conference play. He notched a pair or regionally-ranked victories on the year, defeating then-No. 50 Vishal Wallis from NYU during a huge dual meet win. The Fords' senior also defeated the then-No. 2 player in the Atlantic South Region, Vishnu Joshi of Johns Hopkins, to highlight his conference results. One of the few players who played No. 1 singles and doubles throughout the conference, Moskovitz joined Kevin Yan in earning first-team All-CC in doubles.

Haverford's No. 1 pairing went 13-10 together (7-1 CC) and had regionally-ranked wins against Southern Virginia and Swarthmore throughout the spring schedule after advancing the regional quarterfinals at the beginning of the year. That duo is currently ranked 14th in the Atlantic South Region. In addition to earning his second all-conference nod in singles, his first on the top team, Kevin Yan also became a three-time All-CC selection for singles. The 2017 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year was named a second-team representative in singles this spring after going 16-9 overall, including a 7-2 mark in conference singles at No. 2 in the lineup.

Pranav Krishnan and George Jiang earned second-team All-CC honors in doubles as Haverford's No. 2 team won a team-best 15 matches together. That pairing went 5-2 in Centennial Conference play throughout the spring and closed the regular season by winning eight of those final nine matches. Jiang was also a second-team All-CC honoree in singles in addition to earning a spot on the conference's all-sportsmanship team. Playing No. 3 singles, Jiang finished his rookie campaign at 17-7 overall, going 5-2 in conference singles. He closed the season on a three-match winning streak and won eight of his last nine overall.

Earning coach of the year honors in his first season, head coach Brendan Kincaid led the Fords to a 13-8 record as his team went 7-2 in Centennial Conference play and advanced to the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament. Each of those defeats came to a team that was nationally-ranked at the time or entered the national poll shortly after. In addition to the strong conference showing, the Fords defeated an NYU team that has since moved up to No. 36 in the national polls. The Fords are ranked No. 11 as a team in the Atlantic South Region as they came within one single victory of breaking the program's record for wins in a season as the 1994 team went 14-6 overall. Kincaid's honor marks the second straight year in which this award has gone to a Haverford coach as Sean Sloane, who retired following the 2017-18 campaign, earned his second such honor in his 22nd and final season with the Fords. Kincaid was also named the Landmark Conference's Coach of the Year in 2016 and received the ITA's Regional and National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2009-10.
