Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's indoor track and field was selected as the No. 2 team in the Centennial Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, the conference announced in a release on Thursday afternoon. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

The Fords were predicted to place second in the conference (57 points, one first-place vote) after recording a second-place finish at last year's Centennial Conference Championship for the fourth straight season. The team won seven events at the conference meet, scoring 27 more points than the previous year and inching ever closer to the title yet again.

Last season, Charlie Marquardt finished second nationally in the mile to earn All-American honors while the Fords' Distance Medley Relay team placed 11th overall at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

This season, reigning Cross Country All-American junior Henry Woods joins returning All-Conference selections senior Alex Frost, and sophomore Liam Lynch, giving Haverford a trio of strong runners to headline the indoor season.

The four-time reigning conference champion, Johns Hopkins, received the other eight first-place votes, to lead the poll with 64 points. Muhlenberg (40 points) finished in third while Ursinus, Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall all tied for fourth with 37 points each. Dickinson (22 points), Swarthmore (21 points) and McDaniel (9 points) rounded out the preseason poll.

Head coach Tom Donnelly's squad begins its season at the Haverford Holiday Meet dual meet at the Alumni Field House next Thursday before resuming competition after the winter holidays.
