HAVERFORD, Pa. – For the third straight week, the Haverford College men's cross country team jumped in the latest US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association weekly poll. The Fords improved into a tie at No. 16 in the national poll and remained steady as the No. 2 team in the regional rankings.

North Central remains atop of the poll, receiving all eight first-place votes. St. Olaf is No. 2 followed by Amherst, Washington (Mo.) and Williams in the top five. The Fords remain the top Centennial Conference squad as Johns Hopkins is No. 20 and Dickinson is No. 23.

Carnegie Mellon is the top team in the Mideast region with 97 voting points and eight of the nine first-place votes. Haverford had the other first place placing No. 2 in the region (89 points). Johns Hopkins, Dickinson and Widener round out the top five. Swarthmore comes in at No. 9 in the regional rankings.

The Fords did not participate in an event last week. The week before, the men's cross country team hosted the Main Line Invitational on the Alumni Cross Country Course. Haverford scored 95 points and were edged out by only Division I competitors Penn, Villanova, and La Salle, but notched wins over rival Swarthmore and Division I Temple. Senior Charlie Marquardt was the top non-Penn and non-Villanova runner in the field as he out kicked La Salle's top finisher to earn a 10th place finish in a time of 19:50, leading to his third career cross country Centennial Conference Runner of the Week award.

Head coach Tom Donnelly's team next event will be the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. The Fords also host the Haverford Invitational (Oct. 23) before traveling to the Centennial Conference Championships (Oct. 31). The NCAA Mideast Regional (Nov. 14) takes place in Newville, Pa. and the NCAA Championships (Nov. 21) are in Oshkosh, Wisc.
