SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Haverford College softball team picked up two Centennial Conference wins on Saturday afternoon on the road, taking a 10-0 five inning victory, followed by a 3-2 win over the Swarthmore College Garnet. 

The Fords blasted 20 hits on the day. 

In the final game of the doubleheader, with the score locked 2-2 in the seventh inning and one out, Elizabeth Newman reached base on an error by the Swarthmore second baseman. A Sarah Brody bunt advanced Newman into scoring position and then Jen DiCandilo singled to bring home the winning run. Haverford's winning pitcher, Emily Winesett, retired the Garnet side 1-2-3 to secure the win. 

Earlier in the contest, Swarthmore's Nicole Aaron reached base on a single in the second inning and then scored on two Haverford fielding errors. Leading 1-0, Swarthmore's Laurie Sellars singled to lead off the fifth inning and eventually scored on an RBI-single by Suness Jones to take a 2-0 lead. 

Haverford broke its offensive silence in the sixth inning, as Gabrielle Sapienza hit a two-run homer to tie the game at 2-2. Haverford got the win on the rubber from Winesett (9-7) in two innings pitched in relief of starter Claire Fitzgerald. Swarthmore's Sarina Lowe went to 3-3 on the year. 

In the first game of the day (box score), Sapienza hit a two-run homer to get things cooking for the Fords in the second inning. Visiting Haverford was just getting started, as an error by the Swarthmore second baseman scored Jill Schnall and Brody doubled in a run. Dayle Comerford went yard with two runners on to give her squad an early 7-0 lead when the dust had settled in the second square. 

In the third inning, Newman singled in Lauren Touey, and the Fords closed the game out in the fourth as Touey singled in Kristin Tatum and then scored on a walk to end the scoring in a 10-0 mercy rule five-inning contest.

Haverford's Winesett had three strikeouts in three innings, and Sara Tauriello picked up two strikeouts in two innings pitched. Swarthmore's Melissa O'Connor took the loss to go to 10-7 on the season in 1.1 innings pitched, while Christen Boas Hayes pitched 3.1 innings and Sarah Coe-Odess tossed to just one batter for the game. 

The Fords continue the regular season on Tuesday as they finish a contest against Ursinus College that was halted by darkness. The squads will pick up play in the 10th inning at Ursinus at 4:30 p.m.
