Softball Leading Messiah, 6-2, in Halted Game Two

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Haverford College softball team got just one and a half innings in against Messiah College on Saturday as the teams attempted to play a rain delayed game two of their NCAA Super Regional. Despite having just one turn at-bat, the Fords put up six runs and will carry a 6-2 lead into Sunday's contest as the halted game will resume at 10 a.m.

After the Falcons got the Fords' leadoff batter in the bottom of the first, the next four runners reached while Kendall Chambers' grand slam provided the big offensive blow. Julia Blake and Kaitlyn Guild started the inning with back-to-back one out walks. Kristin Tatum then singled to load the bases.

A ground ball to second from Jessica Koshinski scored the first run as an errant throw home tied the game at one. Chambers unloaded the bases as she drove a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall with two outs. Walks to Alex Craig and Emily Winesett put another runner in scoring position who came around to score on a Rachel Wolfson RBI single.

Messiah loaded the bases in each of its times at bat. However, Sara Tauriello allowed just one unearned run in the first on a sacrifice fly. After a run was forced home on a walk in the second, Tauriello worked through the inclement weather with the aid of a nice diving grab by Koshinski in foul territory.

After that diving stop, the game was halted by game officials and the ruling was made to resume the game Sunday at 10 a.m.
