Softball Receiving Votes in Final NFCA Poll

NFCA Poll

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College softball team grabbed national attention during its deep run into the NCAA Tournament. That attention also caught the eyes of the national raters as the Fords received 10 voting points in the final National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll of the 2016 season. Haverford got 10 points in the voting of national raters.

The Fords won the Norfolk, Virginia Regional which featured the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the NFCA Poll at the time. Haverford advanced to its first NCAA Super Regional with its second win in three days against No. 2 Salisbury in the seventh game of the regional tournament. The Fords followed that up by pushing eventual national runner-up Messiah to a decisive third game in their first-ever NCAA Super Regional Appearance.

Haverford's mention in the poll is the team's first since the 2013 season. The Fords were ranked as high as No. 22 in the country during that season, while also receiving votes in a separate week. Haverford advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. Each of those occasions came with the Centennial Conference's automatic bids after championship seasons in 2006, 2014 and 2016.

Finishing the season with a 28-22 record, the Fords finished just one victory shy of the program record for wins in a season. Softball's Class of 2016 graduates from Haverford as the winningest class in program history. The four seniors on this year's team helped the Fords win 108 games during their four years.
