Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team
HAVERFORD, Pa. – Temma Levis has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team for the first time in her career. Levis becomes the first Haverford College softball player to earn this award since Dayle Comerford '15 did so during her senior season. Levis was a first-team All-Centennial Conference pitcher and second-team All-Atlantic Region selection in the circle during a standout junior season.
The all-area team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area. In order to be eligible for academic all-area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. Haverford was one of only three NCAA schools, including Division I, II, and III with more than one student-athlete named to the academic all-area team.
Now the highest-ranked all-region player in program history, Levis was one of a program-record four softball players who earned first-team All-Centennial Conference this spring. The Fords' co-captain dominated in the circle with a perfect 10-0 record and one save during the Centennial Conference regular season. She led the Centennial with a 1.15 ERA in those conference clashes.
Finishing the year with a 1.38 ERA, opponents batted just .173 in conference against the Fords' junior. Levis finished her season 18-3 overall on her way to setting the program's record for wins in a season. She pitched three shutouts, locking down Dickinson and Gettysburg in addition to her no-hitter against the University of New England. For good measure, Levis batted .316 on the year in the middle of the Haverford lineup.
Softball finished its 2019 campaign with a 28-12 record to come within one victory of breaking the program record which was set in 2014. Haverford went 13-3 in Centennial Conference play during the regular season and advanced to the championship game against Dickinson before falling in 1-0 battles during both contests against the Red Devils. Haverford hosted the Centennial Conference Tournament for just the second time in school history (2006) after finishing in first place in the conference's regular season standings.
