HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College softball team (5-11) fell short in a pair of non-conference games at the Class of '95 Field. The visitors from Arcadia (15-4), won game one 11-7 and bettered that in game two winning a run-rule shortened contest by a score of 12-2. Kaila Uyeda totaled six hits in seven at-bats across the two games. Uyeda converted those hits into two RBIs while scoring three runs, while Mia Kessinger and Madison Hujber each hit home runs in game one.

Game one was an offensive onslaught from both teams. Despite being on the wrong side of the final score, the Fords matched the Knights' productivity. Arcadia finished the game with 14 hits, while Haverford only produced two fewer, finishing with 12. The difference? Arcadia had players in scoring positions when the big hits came. However, a few errors from the Fords allowed Arcadia to take advantage, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top half of the inning.

Haverford had its own success at the bottom of the first. First, Uyeda, who registered a hit in every at-bat, singled to the right side to get things started. Then, a Carly Parsons bunt moved Uyeda to second. Mia Kessinger followed that up with an RBI double down the left-field line, making the score 2-1.

Both teams showed their power in the second inning. Megan Sooy's three-run home run highlighted an inning in which Arcadia scored four runs. With the Fords staring down a 6-1 deficit, Madison Hujber hit a solo shot to left field as the leadoff batter. The home run had the Fords believe they could keep up with the bats of Arcadia, but the second inning ended with just one run scored.

Sooy hit another home run in the third inning, this time a two-run shot to increase the lead for the Knights. In that inning, the Knights finished with two hits and three runs. However, the Fords matched that offensive performance yet again. With Udeya on base, Kessinger delivered her second home run in three days, a two-run shot to center field that bounced off the scoreboard. Abby Marquis kept things going, following up the blast with a double to right-center. Still, the final two batters couldn't capitalize on their chances.

In the fifth inning, with the Fords down 11-4, the team put in one last effort to bring the game within striking distance. Three singles from Abby Marquis, Emily Reinstadtler, and Udeya highlighted a three-run inning for Haverford. However, the momentum ended there as no more runs were scored in the final two innings of game one. Maya Casey and Alexa Finkele each saw time in the circle. Casey pitched two innings with three earned runs, while Finkele pitched five with five earned runs.

There wasn't too much to take away from game two of the doubleheader. With the game only lasting five innings, Arcadia scored ten of their runs in the first two innings, including a six-run frame in the second. Haverford's production wouldn't come until the fourth and fifth inning when they were able to score two runs. A Nikki Kingsland RBI single scored Uyeda, and a loud double from Uyeda in the fifth scored Maddie Etheridge. Those two rockets were two of the five hits the Fords registered for the game.

Haverford will hop right back into action with a chance to right the ship at Moravian on Saturday. The first pitch of the doubleheader is Bethlehem is slated for noon.
