RADNOR, Pa. – The Haverford College softball team (10-2) took both games of a doubleheader with Cabrini (7-5) on Thursday, extending their win streak to five games with another offensive outburst. The Fords won game one by a 5-4 before taking the next game 12-2 in five innings. Abby Marquis dominated the day with five hits (four home runs), nine RBI, and six runs between both games.

After a scoreless first inning, Marquis led off the second inning with a triple. Jocelyn Leal then walked, setting up Molly Kaufman to bring in two runs with a single to center field. With a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the frame, Rachel McQueen stepped back into the circle to retire three straight batters to preserve the Haverford lead.

After a Kessinger walk to start the third inning, Marquis hit a two-run home run to center field, doubling Haverford's lead.  Leal was walked by the Cavs pitcher and after a passed ball, advanced to second base. Molly Kaufman registered another RBI after hitting a triple and Abby Litchfield followed that up with a double to right center field to score Kaufman.

The Fords continued to roll as Madison Hujber registered her first hit of the day to move Litchfield to third. Kaila Uyeda stepped into the batters box and singled to right field for an RBI as the bases were still loaded. However, a double play from Cabrini ended the inning but not before the Fords had put five on the board.

Cabrini notched a lead-off home run to pull a run back in the bottom of the third. The Cavaliers loaded the bases with no outs and a chance to get right back  into the game. The Cavs tallied another run shortly after but the Fords' got out of the inning with little damage after a timely double play.

In the top of the sixth, Marquis hit her second home run of the game with a deep, two-run shot to left field, increasing the lead to 9-2. Cabrini matched Haverford's two runs in the bottom of the frame but the hosts still trailed by five runs heading into the final inning.

Haverford then lit up the scoreboard, putting the game completely out of reach. Carley Parsons doubled to center field for an RBI and Marquis followed it up with her whopping third home run of the game. Marquis' home run tied Haverford's single-game record of three that was set by Kristin Tatum in 2016.

Leal knocked a home run in the seventh as well, going back-to-back with Marquis, representing the final run of the contest. Alexa Finkele tossed five solid innings in relief as she picked up the win, her second of the season after allowing just four hits and two runs. Marquis finished with four hits, six RBI and four runs. Kaufman had a stellar day at the plate as well, registering four hits and three RBI.

The Fords continued their dominance in game two, scoring three runs in the first inning. Marquis hit her fourth home run, this one a three-run shot. The Cavs scored a run in the bottom of the frame but Haverford blew the game open in the inning to follow.

Addie Sapirstein singled to score Uyeda, after the senior reached first on an error from Cabrini. Kessinger followed that up with a double to right center field to score Sapirstein. The Fords racked up more runs after Leal doubled, registering two RBI with Marquis and Kessinger scoring. With the lead at 8-1, Litchfield added her name to the list of home runs with a two-run shot to left center field.

Susie Pieper handled much of the pitching duties, pitching three innings and giving up two earned runs to move to 4-0 on the season. Anna Stowe followed with two scoreless frames in relief.

The game came to a close in the fifth inning but not before Sapirstein and Uyeda registered the last two RBI of the game for a ten-run lead.

Haverford will next play on Saturday, March 18 when they host the visiting Eastern Eagles for a doubleheader at Class of '95 field. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the second game to follow shortly after.
