GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Haverford College softball team (14-13-1, 2-3-1 CC) was defeated in doubleheader action at Gettysburg (15-10-1, 4-2 CC) on Friday, dropping a pair of contests by 6-2 and 8-0 finals at Bobby Jones Field.

Gettysburg 6, Haverford 2

In game one, the Bullets opened the scoring in the second inning after Alexa Finkele tossed a scoreless first frame. Back-to-back singles from Giovanna Komst and Jess Campana set the table for a Lily Mader double that plated a pair. Lauren O'Leary followed with a double later in the inning to extend the advantage to 4-0 in favor of the hosts.

In the third, singles from Smith and Moser set the stage for a Campana base hit that scored two for a 6-0 lead. Mia Kessinger grabbed Haverford's first hit of the contest in the fourth inning, and Haverford got on the scoreboard in the fifth.

Jocelyn Leal singled through the right side, and Molly Kaufman then reached on a bunt single. Kaila Uyeda reached on an error, plating Leal for Haverford's first run of the contest. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Addie Sapirstein scored Haverford's second run as the Fords trimmed the lead to just 6-2 in favor of the hosts.

Unfortunately for Haverford, they would get no closer as Paige Forrya allowed just one more base runner over the final two innings. Forry picked up the win with a complete game, allowing just three hits while striking out four.

Finkele scattered 11 hits in her complete game loss, with five strikeouts against just one walk.

Gettysburg 8, Haverford 0 (5)

The Fords began game two with a Nikki Kingsland double, and Marquis later walked to put two on with two out. Leal grounded out to end the threat, but Rachel McQueen took over in the circle and did well to hold the Bullets off guard in the first frame with a perfect inning.

Kaufman also led off the second with a single, but was stranded. Gettysburg then pushed across five runs in a big second inning. Singles from Allegra DeCandia and Lily Mader were wrapped around a walk to Carlie Goldstein, and a run scored on a wild pitch before three consecutive walks plated a run. The big punch of the inning came from a two-RBI single from Olivia Moser against Susie Pieper, as suddenly the Bullets had a big advantage.

Each side took turns working around some traffic in the third and fourth innings, and Haverford had a shot in the fifth, putting two on with no out before Megan Hughes was able to work out of danger.

In the bottom of the fifth, Moser connected on a solo homer to begin the frame, extending the lead out to 6-0. DeCandia and Komst then each singled, and with one out, Goldstein powered a double into left, plating a pair to secure the eight-run rule victory for Gettysburg.

Hughes had a stellar turn in the circle during game two, scattering five hits and striking out two. She was a bit wild, with three wild pitches and three walks, but did well to hold the Haverford offense off guard in a 106-pitch victory.

Pieper took over for McQueen after the sophomore hurler struck out one and allowed two hits in 1.2 innings of work. Pieper went 2.2 innings, scattering six hits and three runs. Kingsland had the only extra base hit for the Fords, while Kessinger matched a game-best with two singles.

Haverford now continues Centennial Conference play on Tuesday, heading to rival Swarthmore for doubleheader action. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. and Clothier Softball Field.
