Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Junior Kristin Tatum has been named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week after helping the Haverford College softball team to a pair of victories in its home opener. In Haverford's only games played last week, the Fords swept Eastern University by 4-3 and 8-0 scores on the Class of 95 Field. She earned this same honor during her freshman season when she hit two grand slams and drove in a program-record eight runs against Eastern two years ago.

Tatum powered this year's home sweep with an .857 batting average during the doubleheader. She started off her day 2-for-3 at the plate in Haverford's 4-3 victory. Additionally, Tatum scored the eventual game-winning run in that contest, while also driving in the first run of the game.

Her spectacular day at the plate continued with a perfect 4-for-4 second game. That contest, which ended an 8-0 run-rule victory for the Fords after six innings, was capped by Tatum's three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. The junior finished that game with four RBI in total.

Tatum is batting .421 through the first 12 games this season. She is currently leading the Centennial Conference in both slugging percentage (.821) and home runs (4). Her 12 RBI are tied for the fourth most in the conference. Her 13 career home runs already rank second in program history behind teammate Jill Schnall's 14.

Softball will open up Centennial Conference play during a very busy upcoming week. The Fords' week gets started Tuesday when they travel to Washington College for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. Haverford will host non-conference foe Rowan on Thursday at 3 p.m. before resuming Centennial play Saturday against Dickinson at 1 p.m. The busy week of eight scheduled games continues Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Penn State-Berks.
