Fords tame Bears in women's soccer

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team evened their conference mark with a 1-0 win over visiting Ursinus College in Centennial Conference action Wednesday afternoon.

Haverford pushed their league mark to 2-2 and their overall record to 7-2-2 with the victory while the loss moves the Bears to 2-2-1 and 5-4-1.

Game action was tilted towards the Fords' offensive end throughout an opening 45 minutes in which Haverford outshot Ursinus by a 9-1 margin and scored the lone goal of the game.

In the 24th minute Ursinus was whistled for a foul 30 yards out in front of their goal and Haverford's Anna Rayne converted the free kick opportunity with a line-drive that rocketed into the upper, left corner beating Bears goalie Justine Harvey.

The Bears' attempts at the equalizer were limited in the half as the Haverford midfielders and defenders controlled possession allowing just one shot on Fords keeper Kayleigh Herrick-Reynolds, and that single shot wasn't until the game's 39th minute.

Play evened up in the second stanza as Ursinus generated more shots than in the first half and got three on frame but Herrick-Reynolds came up big each time to preserve the shutout.

Haverford's next game will be another league contest as the Fords travel the short drive up the Main Line to battle Bryn Mawr College next Wednesday in a 4 p.m. contest.
