HAVERFORD, Pa. - A solid second half from Haverford College's women's soccer team wasn't quite enough as the Fords fell, 2-0, to visiting Stevenson University in a non-conference match-up Sunday afternoon at Walton Field on the second day of the Haverford Kickoff Classic.

The Fords (0-1-1) owned an 8-4 advantage in shots and 3-1 margin in corner kick opportunities during the final 45 minutes of action but Stevenson (2-0) was able to weather the constant pressure to ride its early pair of goals to the victory.

Stevenson's Ashlyn Hawbaker got her team on the scoreboard less than two minutes into the game with an unassisted goal. The Mustangs added to their lead 12 minutes later by converting a penalty kick.

Trailing at the half the Fords came out of the intermission with a stronger attacking presence. Their best chances to score came early in the second half on consecutive plays.

Meg Boyer launched a shot from 15 yards out that clanged off the crossbar at the 55:56 mark. Not even two minutes later Boyer took a feed from Phoebe Miller on a give-and-go within the box but her shot sailed inches above the crossbar.

The Fords continued to pressure but no scoring chances matched those two as Haverford dropped its first game of the 2013 season.

Goalkeeper Robin Chernow finished with three saves in the loss while Stevenson's Annie McCoach earned the shutout victory between the pipes with four saves.

Haverford's season continues with a trip to Hoboken, N.J., on Sept. 7-8 for the Stevens Engineering Cup. The Fords play New York University on Saturday and Vassar College on Sunday.
