Fords run unbeaten string to 11 after win at McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. - Forward Connie Friedman's goal opened the scoring and forward Meg Boyer's closed it in Haverford College's 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon at McDaniel College in Centennial Conference women's soccer action.

The Haverford (7-2-5, 4-0-3 CC) victory extended an unbeaten string for the Fords to 11 games while Saturday's loss is the second in a row for McDaniel (10-4, 4-3).

Friedman got the Fords on the scoreboard midway through the first half with her forth goal of the season, giving visiting Haverford a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute. The lead was short-lived as the Green Terror's Maggie Quinn netted the equalizer six minutes later.

Haverford continued to pressure McDaniel goalie Haley Jacobs, forcing her to come up with four saves, over the remainder of the stanza but the Fords were unable to poke in a go-ahead tally despite notching three shots at the McDaniel netminder over the final 7:15 of the half.

The teams traded one shot each in the early minutes of the second half before Boyer put Haverford in front with her fourth of the season, this one coming at the 63:44 mark.

Both Jacobs and Fords goalkeeper Robin Chernow needed to come up with two saves each as the second half wore on following Boyer's tally but neither team would find the back of the netting allowing Haverford to come up with the victory.

Chernow finished with three saves in the win while Jacobs came up with six in the loss.

The Fords' unbeaten streak goes back on the line Wednesday when visiting Washington College visits Walton Field for a 4 p.m. conference contest.
