INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA on Monday afternoon announced its 64-team field for the Division III 2013 women's soccer championship and Haverford College's Fords were among the at-large selections named to the national tournament.
Haverford (10-3-6), making its second straight appearance in the NCAA playoffs, finished second in the regular season standings of the Centennial Conference and played its way into the championship of the postseason league tournament before falling, 2-0, Saturday evening to sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins University, which earned the conference's automatic bid with the victory.
The Fords will take on Keene State (N.H.) University (17-4-1) on Saturday, Nov. 16 in an opening-round match-up in Williamstown, Mass., at first-round host Williams College.
Keene State's Owls captured the Little East Conference title over the weekend by downing Eastern Connecticut State, 1-0, for their first league crown since 2004. The Owls, like the Fords, were second in their league's final regular-season standings.
Haverford and Keene State are scheduled to play in one of the two contests slated for Williams, with the host Ephs set to battle Lesley (Mass.) University in the other. Saturday's winners advance to a second-round battle Sunday afternoon at Williams.
The NCAA D-III tournament continues through early December when the semifinals and championship game will be played on Dec. 6 and 7 in San Antonio, Texas.
