Chernow Named Centennial Defensive Player of the Week

Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Robin Chernow has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by conference officials. The senior goalkeeper on the women's soccer team notched a pair of shutouts in the Fords' first action of the fall, helping her squad to the Haverford College Kickoff Classic Championship.

Chernow started off her season with a four-save performance against Arcadia as Haverford tallied the game-winning goal in the 81st minute off the head of Connie Friedman in the 1-0 victory. Chernow made three of her four saves in the second half during that contest while the game was in a scoreless deadlock. The Fords' senior backed that performance up with another shutout in the championship match against Scranton. During Haverford's 2-0 win, Chernow was called on to make seven saves, six of which came during the second half of play.

Playing all 180 minutes over the weekend, Chernow was the goalie of record in both victories. Her win during Sunday's championship match was the 38th of her career, setting a new school record for victories in a career. Chernow passed Jen Trowbidge '04 to claim the top spot in the school record book. Her career record now stands at 38-10-13. The Fords' senior is also the school record holder for career goals against average, allowing just 0.73 goals per 90 minutes through her career. Chernow now has 29.3 shutouts for her career, also a school record. She has held the opposition scoreless for the past 194:53 of playing time dating back to last year's NCAA Tournament.

Women's soccer will travel to Stevenson this Saturday for a 3 p.m. kickoff. Stevenson is also off to a 2-0 start in the early portion of the season.
