Women's Soccer Plays to Draw at York, 1-1

YORK, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team (3-2-2) scored just 4:30 into its non-conference game at York College on Saturday. However, the host Spartans (4-2-2) answered back less than 10 minutes into the second half. After two scores in the early portion of both halves, neither team was able to crack the scoreboard during the final 55-plus minutes of action as the defensive stalemate ended in a 1-1 draw.

Haverford's goal came in the fifth minute when Phoebe Miller broke through the York defense and scored the unassisted tally. Miller's goal was the first of her season and 10th of her career. It was also the first shot of the game for either team.

That 1-0 score held up at the half, but York answered that early tally in the 55th minute. After sending two shots wide of frame in the opening minutes of the second half, Shyanna Kimbrough took a pass outside of the 18 and continued up the right side of the field. She finished to the far post, knotting the score at 1-1.

In addition to the score being tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the two sides also took an identical 10 shots during the first 90 minutes. Both teams finished with seven shots in the first half and three shots in the final 45 minutes of regulation. However, the Fords held the upper hand with five shots on target during the opening 90 minutes.

York had just two shots on net during regulation time; however, the Spartans would hold the upper hand in the two 10-minute overtime sessions with all five shots on goal. Each time York threatened, Robin Chernow stood her ground as she finished the game with six saves. Her counterpart, Melanie Glessner, made four stops in her 110 minutes in goal.

Women's soccer will be back on the road Wednesday when the Fords travel to Moravian. Wednesday's contest will be the final non-conference match of the regular season. That midweek tilt will get underway at 4 p.m.
