Women's Soccer Concludes the 2014 Season at Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team finished out the 2014 season with a 2-0 loss at rival Swarthmore Saturday afternoon. The Garnet (11-6, 6-4 CC) got two goals from Emma Sindelar in the opening half to secure the victory in the regular season finale and lock down a Centennial Conference playoff appearance.

Swarthmore got the scoring started early as Sindelar scored her first tally of the game 4:12 into the contest. After receiving the pass from Miranda Saldivar, the Garnet's goal scorer on the afternoon was able to touch the ball around the Haverford keeper and finish for her seventh goal of the season.

The Garnet would also tally late in the first half as Sindelar scored her second goal of the game with 2:45 left before half time. This time it was Hannah Lichtenstein that set up the goal for the hosts. After a run down the left wing, the pass came to the middle of the field where Sindelar was able to beat the defense for her second goal of the afternoon.

Haverford took seven shots in the game, but was unable to beat Swarthmore's Reba Magier as she stopped four shots on goal to post the shutout. Freshmen Raina Fitzpatrick and Skyler Ellenburg each took two shots on the day for the Fords. Additionally, Connie Friedman and Larisa Antonisse each took a shot in the final game of their collegiate careers. Safiyah Riddle also finished with one shot in the game for Haverford. Robin Chernow made three saves for Haverford in the final game of her distinguished four-year career.

The Fords finish the season with a 7-7-3 record overall on the season, including a 3-6-1 record in Centennial Conference play.

In addition to the aforementioned seniors above, Michelle Babicz, Dominique Caggiano, Kristin Hasselgren, Phoebe Miller and Abi Moeller also took part in their final collegiate contests. That group of eight will graduate from Haverford College with a total of 43 victories in their careers. The class was also a part of three Centennial Conference Tournaments, including the 2012 Centennial Conference Championship team. This group also helped the Fords advance to the 2012 and 2013 NCAA Tournaments.
