Women's Soccer Haunted by McDaniel, 3-1

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Haverford College women's soccer team got a second half goal from Raina Fitzpatrick to make Saturday's Centennial Conference meeting at McDaniel a one goal difference with 35 minutes left in regulation time. Nevertheless, the Green Terror (14-0-2, 5-0-2 CC) – a team receiving votes in the latest NSCAA rankings – emerged with a 3-1 victory against the visiting Fords (10-4-1, 3-4-1 CC).

Early goals in each half allowed the hosts to jump out in front early. Nicole Hill and Maggie Quinn did the damage for McDaniel at the start of the first and second half, respectively. Fitzpatrick breathed life back into the Fords' offense with a goal in the 55th minute to bring her team back within a single goal. However, the Green Terror's Lindsey Farrell added a goal with just over 20 minutes to play in what was the final scoring of the afternoon.

Just 2:29 into the match, Hill was set up for the game's first goal on a cross by Quinn. Hill's goal was her 11th of the season. The team's went scoreless for the remainder of the first half, but the quick strike offense of the Green Terror was on display just 1:01 into the second half as Quinn scored a goal off of a set piece for a 2-0 McDaniel advantage.

Fitzpatrick got the Haverford offense jump-started just under nine minutes later when she became the fourth player on this year's team to score at least five goals. Her goal came after an initial shot from Jo Haller was saved. Haller was credited with her team-leading sixth assist of the year on the play. Haverford looked as though at might tie the game up in the 69th minute when Haller went back on the attack. This time, her shot clanked off the post to deny her game-tying attempt.

Just over one minute after the potential equalizer was denied by the post, McDaniel got its insurance goal from Farrell. Quinn, who played in a part in each of the Green Terror's goals on the afternoon, was credited with the assist on McDaniel's third goal. She finished the game with a goal and two assists.

Saturday's defeat came despite a 5-4 advantage in shots from the Fords. Haller and Fitzpatrick each had two shots, while Anna Dekle saw her only shot of the match saved during the first half of play.

Women's soccer will return home to Walton Field this upcoming week for its final two games of the regular season. The first of those contests will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. vs. Washington College.
