Women's Soccer Tabbed Sixth in CC Preseason Poll

Preseason Poll | Preseason Guide

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Coaches around the Centennial Conference are expecting another tight race for the playoffs and the Haverford College women's soccer team is right in the mix as the Fords were picked sixth in the preseason poll. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.

Haverford, who finished in a tie for sixth last year in the Centennial Conference, received 51 voting points in the poll. Swarthmore, last year's regular season champion, was picked as the preseason favorite with six first-place votes. Johns Hopkins, the 2015 Centennial Conference Tournament champions, received the remaining first-place votes to finish second in the poll. McDaniel (72 points), Gettysburg (64 points), and Ursinus (55 points) rounded out the top five.

The Fords went 11-5-1 overall (4-5-1 CC) last season as the team recorded its first unbeaten non-conference slate in program history. They will lose just players to graduation from that team which was on the doorsteps of a playoff position last fall.

Haverford returns a pair of All-Centennial Conference performers from 2015 in Abby Letts (second-team) and Katie Safter (honorable mention). Raina Fitzpatrick, Ali Lopez and Anna Dekle will return as the team's leading scorers after each netted five goals in 2015.

Following the team's annual Alumnae Game this coming Saturday, the Fords will open the regular season with the Haverford College Kick Off Classic on Saturday, September 3 against Arcadia. The Fords begin the year with four straight home games before heading to Dickinson for the Centennial Conference opener on September 17.
