Women's Soccer Edged by Ursinus, 1-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team suffered its first setback of the Centennial Conference season with a 1-0 loss on the road at Ursinus on Wednesday night.

The Fords (7-2-1, 2-1 CC) and Bears (4-5-1, 2-2 CC) played an incredibly tight second half with each side taking four shots in the final 45 minutes. However, it was a direct kick by Ursinus' Kelly Rosen that was headed into the goal by Katie Bell which propelled the home team to victory. That game-winning goal came in the 67th minute of game action.

Despite Haverford's best offensive efforts, Courtney Sullivan made three saves to stop the Fords offense in her shutout victory. Kathy Prescott made four saves in the opening 45 minutes of the game and finished with five saves on the night.

Haverford put the most pressure on Sullivan at the end of the first half and beginning of the second half when the Fords registered all three shots on goal from the 43rd through 52nd minutes of play. The Fords' final opportunity of the game came in the 82nd minute of play, but a shot off the foot of Grace Mathis traveled wide of the net. Haverford also had its only chance at a corner with just under two minutes remaining in regulation but could not get a shot on goal through the tightly packed box.

Women's soccer will look to bounce back at home this Saturday as the Fords welcome Franklin & Marshall to Walton Field for a 1 p.m. start.
