Women's Soccer Holds Ranking in NCAA Regional Release

NCAA Regional Rankings

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team held its No. 8 position in the Mid-Atlantic Region during the NCAA's second rankings release. This ranking ultimately leads up to the selection of at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament. Two more rankings will be released in the coming weeks with the final release being unveiled following the announcement of the tournament field.

A stingy defense continues to fuel the Fords as they have clinched a Centennial Conference playoff bid for the first time since the 2013 NCAA Tournament team. Haverford recorded its 10th shutout of the season in the 3-0 win over Washington College that ultimately locked down a playoff bid. Only the 1995 team with 11 shutouts has more clean sheets in one season than the 2016 Fords.

The most recent NCAA rankings do not take into account Haverford's victory on Wednesday. However, the second release comes after the Fords tied McDaniel over the weekend. The Green Terror are ranked third in the latest regional ranking. The Fords also had a 7-0 win against Bryn Mawr since the release of the first rankings.

Women's soccer will wrap up the regular season this Saturday with a 7 p.m. game under the lights at Swarthmore. The Garnet are ranked fourth in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Haverford is currently in fourth place in the Centennial Conference and can earn the right to host the Centennial Conference first round game with a win against its Hood Trophy rival or a loss or tie from Gettysburg as the Bullets take on Johns Hopkins this weekend.

The NCAA will next release regional rankings on Wednesday, November 2 with the final set of rankings to be released on Monday, November 7 after the NCAA Selection Show.
