Four Named All-CC for Women's Soccer

All-Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team had one of the strongest defenses in the Centennial Conference in 2016. The Fords were recognized for that fact with the announcement of the All-Centennial Conference team with two defenders (Abby Letts, Kendra Griesman), a goalie (Kathy Prescott), and a midfielder (Katie Safter) honored. Each of the Fords' honorees were second-team All-Centennial Conference performers.

Haverford posted a 0.58 goals against average for the season and recorded 10 shutouts on the year. That shutout total was the fifth time in the last seven seasons that Haverford has shut out 10 different opponents in a single season and was just one clean sheet shy of the program record of 11 shutouts set by the 1995 team. Haverford's GAA was the second best in the conference in Centennial Conference match ups and over the entire duration of the season.

Senior captain Abby Letts repeated her second-team All-Centennial Conference honors from last season. The second year team captain was one of just three players on the Fords who started all 18 games this year. In addition to anchoring Haverford's defense, Letts also tied for the team lead with three goals. She scored the game-winning goal against Widener and Washington College, along with tallying a goal in the Fords' win over Bryn Mawr. Letts recorded those three goals on just six shots this season.

Stepping into the starting XI during the second game of the season, freshman Kendra Griesman earned second-team all-conference honors during her freshman season as a part of the Fords' back line. On top of her defensive exploits, Griesman scored the game-winning goal against Dickinson to open the Centennial Conference season. She also assisted on the game-winning goal which ultimately led to a tie against McDaniel before the Green Terror finished atop the regular season standings.

Kathy Prescott earned second-team All-Centennial Conference honors in goal. Like her senior teammate, Prescott was one of just three players who started all 18 games. She recorded eight solo shutouts during the regular season to go along with two combined clean sheets and a goals against average of 0.60. That 0.60 GAA broke the school record previously held by Lindsay Festa '09 (0.61 GAA in 2005). Her career 0.70 GAA also established a new program record.

Earning honorable mention All-Centennial Conference honors last year as a member of the defense, Katie Safter moved into the midfield during her sophomore campaign where she earned second-team recognition. In 17 starts, Safter tied for the team lead with three goals and ranked second on the team with 10 points as she also tallied three assists. Her goals came against DeSales, Swarthmore, and Gettysburg. Safter led the team in both shots (44) and shots on goal (21).

Women's soccer finished the year with a 10-4-4 record, earning a spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament following a 4-3-2 record in conference play during the regular season. The Fords have now won at least 10 games in seven of the past eight seasons.
