Season Review: Women's Soccer Returns to Postseason Action

Signature wins: The Fords returned to postseason play and hosted the Centennial Conference Tournament first round game in 2016. Jumpstarting Haverford's return to the postseason were the first two wins of the Centennial Conference season against Gettysburg and Dickinson. Haverford's 1-0 win to open conference play was its first victory against Dickinson since the 2012 season. The Fords' 1-0 win against the Bullets during the regular season was the team's first against Gettysburg since a double-overtime victory in 2013. Haverford also showed it could compete with the conference's best, earning a key point following a tie with McDaniel. The Green Terror finished the year atop the conference's regular season standings.

Shutout victories became one of the defining traits of the team as Haverford recorded 10 shutouts this season. The Fords allowed just two goals during the entire month of September. Haverford finished the year with a program-record 0.58 goals allowed per game. Kathy Prescott graduated as the school's all-time leader in goals against average for both a single season and a career.

The team's 10 shutouts ranked second in school history to only the 1995 team which posted 11 clean sheets … Haverford earned the NSCAA Academic Team Award for the 11th straight season and 18 times in the award's 19 year history.

Looking forward:

With a taste of postseason competition, Haverford will return nine of its 11 regular starters from the 2016 season. Despite losing six seniors to graduation – all of which started at some point during their Haverford career – the Fords' returning lineup will be bolstered by five additional players who each saw playing time in at least 10 games.

Offensively, Haverford returns 21 of the team's 27 goals scored this season, headlined by freshman Leanne Ludwick who led the team with 10 points after trying for the team lead with three goals and four assists. Katie Safter and Anna Dekle also had three goals for the Fords. Haverford will lose key components in the defense due to graduation but returning all-conference performers Kendra Griesman and Safter will provide valuable experience going forward.
