Women's Soccer Clinches Bye with Tie vs. No. 20 Swarthmore, 1-1

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team earned a first round bye in the Centennial Conference Tournament with a 1-1 draw against Swarthmore on Senior Day. The Fords (9-5-3, 6-2-2 CC) wrapped up the No. 3 seed with today's result and will face the nationally-ranked and second-seeded Garnet (13-3-1, 7-2-1 CC) once again next Saturday in the Centennial Conference semifinals which will be hosted by Johns Hopkins.

Both goals in Saturday's match came during the second half. The Garnet got on the board first with their goal in the 73rd minute. Swarthmore's Lizzie King was set up on the doorstep of goal following a pass from Marin McCoy. However, just over eight minutes later the Fords would find their answer.

First year Saede Eifrig scored her fourth goal of the season with just 9:12 left in regulation to tie the game at one. Her goal came from the top of the 18 as Eifrig found the upper right corner of goal to tie for the team lead in goals. Junior Hannah Krapes was credited with her second assist of the year to go along with her two goals for a total of six points.

Both teams had their chances to find a go-ahead goal throughout the match as Swarthmore finished with a slight 19-18 advantage in shots during the 110 minute contest. Both goalies were equally up to the task of handling the heavy traffic in front of their respective nets as Julie Hanss recorded a career-best nine saves on the afternoon. Her counterpart, Amy Shmoys stopped seven shots to earn her half of the draw.

Eifrig's tally came as part of a match-high six shots from the Haverford first year. She put three of her attempts on goal. Senior Kendall Logan matched Eifrig's total with three shots on goal which all came in succession off back-to-back-to-back stops following rebounds from the Swarthmore goalie to keep the game scoreless for the time being. Fellow seniors Raina Fitzpatrick and Skyler Ellenburg each had two shot attempts on the day. Prior to the contest, each of the nine members of the Fords' Senior Class during a pregame ceremony. Swarthmore's King took four shots, including her goal, while McCoy led her team with five shots on the afternoon.

The aforementioned rematch with the two rivals will take place in Baltimore as Johns Hopkins finished the regular season with the best record in the Centennial Conference. The start time for the semifinal match in Baltimore will be announced by the conference office on Monday.
