Women's Soccer Suffers Defeat in Conference Opener at Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team (3-3-1, 0-1 CC) was defeated by host Franklin & Marshall (5-0-1, 2-0 CC) in its Centennial Conference opener on Tylus Field in Lancaster, falling by a 5-0 final score.

Haverford was stunned by a goal in the first minute of play, with F&M earning a corner right out of the gates. Sophie Koziol sent the ball into Mikaela Timmermans, who headed the ball home to open the scoring for the Diplomats.

Forced to chase the game from the early goings, Haverford had shots on frame from Liv McMillan in the seventh minute and later Angie Geralis in both the eighth and the 21st minutes, as Haverford looked to equalize but were unable to find the back of the net before the halftime break.

The Diplomats doubled their advantage just moments before halftime, with Kat Tandler scoring an unassisted tally.

In the opening moments of the second half, the Diplomats went right back to work offensively, scoring on their first opportunity out of the intermission. Bri Skidmore took a feed from Kate Boujoukos, and tallied her fourth of the season. Just moments later, the Diplomats made it a 4-0 contest as Timmermans found Alex Wilson in the box and Wilson cashed in her first goal of the year in the 51st minute of play.

In the 74th minute, the Diplomats added their fifth of the evening, with Emily Cook finding the back of the net off an assist from Lillian Williams.

Haverford's lone shot attempt of the second half came in the 81st minute as Phoebe Garfield fired a bit high of goal.  In total, the Fords tallied nine shots in the contest, with eight in the first half. The Fords earned four corner kicks, including three in the final 45 minutes of action. Theresa Haupt finished with four saves while Lucile Fleming had three for the hosts.

Haverford will now return to action on Saturday, September 23 taking on Gettysburg in the home conference opener on Walton Field at 12 p.m.
