Women’s tennis slides past Bullets, 5-4

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team pulled out a 5-4 Centennial Conference victory over host Gettysburg College Saturday. The Fords swept all three doubles matches, but managed just two wins in singles.

Haverford picked up commanding wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 spots in doubles. Katie Wettick and Jaclyn Porter downed Meghan Kelly and Katie Taylor, 8-4, at No. 1. At No. 2, Katie Drooyan and Fumiko Shogase defeated Kelly Eurich and Lydia MacKenzie, 8-5. The victory at No. 3 did not come as easy for Celia Tong and Helen Fisun. Their 9-8 victory over Kylle O'Sullivan and Liz Heisler came down to a 7-3 tiebreaker.

At No. 1 singles, Wettick impressed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Taylor. With the match tied at 4-4, Porter's 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot clinched the victory for the Fords.

Haverford is now 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the Centennial. Gettysburg falls to 9-4 on the season and 3-3 in the conference.

The Fords host Muhlenberg College Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
