Koger, women’s tennis program earn 300th career win

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Haverford College women's team program has existed for 29 seasons and in that time it has known only one coach. On Thursday Ann Koger and the program both recorded their 300th victory. The Fords shutout Kings College, 9-0, for No. 299, and defeated Meredith (N.C.) College, 6-3, for the milestone victory. Koger becomes just the second coach in Centennial Conference history to win 300 matches.

"A lot of the credit in getting the program this far goes to all the teams and players over the past 29 years," said Koger. "This team is very excited about the accomplishment and their preseason conditioning is paying off on the court."

Against Meredith, Haverford (6-0) went ahead, 2-1, after taking doubles points at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions.

Alex Ferrara picked up the match-clinching point with a straight set victory at No. 2 singles. Katie Drooyan, Kate Donches and Jordana Bloom all went on to win their singles matches as well.

Patty Epps led Franklin & Marshall College to 389 wins in her four decades. Not only is Koger the second coach in conference history to record 300 wins, but Haverford joins F&M as the only Centennial schools with the magic number as well.

The Fords will conclude their spring break trip with an early-morning workout Friday before returning home. Haverford's next match will take place Saturday, Mar. 19 at No. 11 Johns Hopkins University at 3:30 p.m.
