Women’s tennis competes at ITA Southeast regional championships

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Abbey Flynn reached the semi-final round of the Blue 5 singles draw to lead the Haverford College women's tennis team at the ITA Southeast regional championships hosted by the University of Mary Washington.

Flynn kicked her tournament off with an 8-4 first round victory over Christopher Newport University's Angie Menendez. In the second round Flynn earned a 6-3, 6-3 win against Mary Washington's Anna Richman. Flynn lost to eventual Blue 5 champion Christine Evangelista of Elizabethtown College in a hard fought semi-final match, 6-4, 7-5.

Celia Tong made it to round two of the Blue 1 singles draw after knocking off Washington College's Kelsey Mills, 8-0. Tong was defeated by Mary Washington's Michaela Dowd in the second round, 6-2, 6-3.

Flynn and Abigail Healy teamed up to reach the semi-finals of the Blue 3 doubles draw. After receiving a first round bye, the duo defeated Hollins College's Caitlin Hoerr and Trudy Siziba, 8-4. Flynn and Healy were upended by the Christopher Newport team of Menendez and Melisande Downs, 8-3, in the semis.

Haverford begins its spring season with its Centennial Conference opener against visiting Bryn Mawr College on March 13, 2011 at 4 p.m
