Women's tennis merits ITA all-academic status

SKILLMAN, N.J. - The Haverford College women's tennis team was named a 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III All-Academic Team as announced by the organization.

The ITA all-academic award recognizes any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or above when factoring in all student-athletes that have competed in one or more varsity matches for the current academic year.

This marks the ninth straight year that Haverford, one of just five Centennial Conference institutions honored overall, has achieved all-academic status.

Additionally, several Fords earned ITA scholar-athlete distinction which spotlights varsity letter winners that maintained a GPA of at least 3.50 throughout the academic year. Senior Liz Crooks was recognized for the third consecutive year while sophomores Kate Donches and Abbey Flynn were honored for the second time.

Meriting scholar-athlete recognition for the first time were sophomores Miriam Abaya and Alex Ferrara, as well as freshmen Caitlin Gallagher, Abigail Healy, Callie Perrone and Sarah Wolberg.

Haverford went 12-9 on the season and qualified for the conference tournament for the fourth consecutive year. The Fords, under the guidance of Head Coach Ann Koger, captured the first postseason victory in program history with a 5-1 win over visiting Washington College on April 25.
