Women's tennis falls to Dickinson

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Cailtin Gallagher remained perfect in singles action this spring but the Haverford College women's tennis team fell 6-3 to host Dickinson College in Centennial Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Trailing 3-0 after doubles, the Fords (9-4, 5-2 CC) looked to rally past the Red Devils (7-7, 5-1) with strong singles play. Gallagher continued her stellar spring with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alysia Rodgers at top-flight singles. The 14th-ranked singles player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Region, Gallagher moved to 13-0 in singles play in 2013.

Kate Donches registered her third consecutive victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Dominique Hedderich at No. 6 singles to provide Haverford with another point on the day.

Senior Celia Tong, playing at No. 4, notched her seventh singles victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Ilana Unger.

Alex Ferrara, at No. 2, almost pulled out another point for the Fords but lost a tight third-set tiebreak to Shannon Lavery.

Tong and Robyn Himlestein put forth a solid effort at No. 2 doubles earlier in the day but fell 9-7 to Hedderich and Madeline Altholtz.

Haverford, ranked 11th in the Atlantic South, looks to bounce back on Wednesday when it hosts Washington College in the first of two consecutive home matches. The conference contest against the Shorewomen begins at 4 p.m.
