Season Review: Women's Tennis Makes Great Strides in 2016

Signature wins: The Haverford College women's tennis team faced a lot of adversity throughout the spring with injuries to key players in both the singles and doubles lineups. Missing key veteran leaders forced the underclassmen to step and fill that void. However, the season of growth showed great promise for the future when the Fords capped the season with a convincing 8-1 win against Gettysburg. All-Centennial Conference singles player Robyn Himelstein went out with wins in singles and doubles on her Senior Day. Each of the team's victories came in straight sets while the three doubles positions allowed just a combined five games.

Season Notes: Haverford went 7-9 overall and 4-6 in the Centennial Conference … Haverford was ranked as high as No. 12 in the ITA Atlantic South Region after the fall tournaments … Eight different players won at least four matches during the 2015-16 season … That list includes a team-best 13 wins in singles from Robyn Himelstein with most of her action coming at No. 1 singles … Himelstein also led the team with 13 wins in doubles during her senior campaign … Himelstein graduates from Haverford as a two-time first-team All-Centennial Conference performer in singles with honors in both her sophomore and senior campaigns … Himelstein was also twice named second-team All-Centennial Conference in doubles.

Looking ahead: Getting all the experienced returning leaders on the team back for the 2016-17 season should go a long way towards the Fords' returning back to the Centennial Conference Tournament. Greta Koch played No. 1 singles early in the year and was an honorable mention All-Centennial Conference selection as a freshman. Koch will join her fellow co-captains Jessica Liu and Abby Payson as leaders of the team. Payson and Liu have both been constants in the Fords' lineup. Courtney Ahmed, Caroline Steliotes, Stephany Prodromos, Caroline Steliotes, Jia-Ling Tuan, Annika Ulrich, and Rae Yuan also gained valuable experience this spring as they were called into the varsity lineup and came through with increasingly strong results.
