Women's Tennis Makes Season Debut in Regional Rankings

ITA Regional Rankings

HAVERFORD, Pa. – For the first time this season, the Haverford College women's tennis team finds itself ranked in the ITA's Atlantic South Region. The Fords are No. 12 in the latest ITA rankings. Haverford made the big jump into the rankings thanks in large part to a 4-1 start to Centennial Conference action.

The biggest of those four victories was a 5-4 decision on the road as the Fords took down Washington College. The Shorewomen entered that match ranked 11th in the Atlantic South. Haverford is one of five Centennial Conference schools ranked in the region: Johns Hopkins (No. 4), Swarthmore (No. 8), Franklin & Marshall (No. 11), and Washington College (No. 13). The Fords were recently handed their first conference defeat by the Diplomats and have upcoming dual matches with both the Blue Jays and Garnet.

Haverford's victory over then-No. 11 Washington College was its second regionally-ranked victory of the spring. During the Fords' trip to Florida over Spring Break, the team also defeated then-No. 13 Oglethorpe by a 5-4 score.

Women's tennis is currently fourth in the Centennial Conference standings with five matches to be played over the course of the next 16 days. The first of those team duals will be this Friday at 4 p.m. as Johns Hopkins visits the Marshall Tennis Courts.
