BALTIMORE – The Haverford College women's tennis team saw its run through the postseason come to an end with a 5-0 defeat at the hands of No. 14 Johns Hopkins on Saturday during the semifinal round of the Centennial Conference Tournament. The Blue Jays will look to defend their conference championship on Sunday following Saturday's result.

Starting off in doubles, the Fords' No. 2 pairing of Jane Bary and Emily Shutman gave the Blue Jays their toughest competition early on. Haverford's middle pairing took four games off of the Blue Jays. The No. 1 pairing of Greta Koch and Abby Payson won two games against the second-ranked doubles pairing in the entire country, while the No. 3 doubles team of Jessica Liu and Clara Farrehi collected one game during their match.

Johns Hopkins clinched the match with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. In the top singles match, the Blue Jays sent the seventh-ranked player in the country out to battle Shutman. Shutman did collect one game against her nationally-ranked opponent. At No. 3 singles, Payson feel victim to another highly touted opponent to cap her distinguished career.

In the matches that went unfinished as a result of the match only being played until a decision was reached, Koch was down just 3-2 in her second set at No. 2 singles. Bary was tied at four-all in the No. 4 match. Rory Lewis was leading 2-1 in the fifth spot in the lineup while Liu was only able to play one game before a match decision was reached.

Women's tennis finishes the spring season with a 10-8 record, marking a three match improvement from its win total a season ago. The Fords were making their eighth showing in the Centennial Conference Tournament during the past nine seasons. They have made the semifinal round in all but one of those postseason appearances.
