Women's Tennis Moves Up to No. 11 in Atlantic South Region

ITA Atlantic South Rankings

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team and its nine-match winning streak is continuing to catch the eye of the Atlantic South Region as the Fords moved up two spots to No. 11 in the second rankings release of the regular season. Haverford's nine straight wins are the team's most in over 20 years. In addition to the team's lofty ranking, Julia Gan entered the singles rankings this week as the 23rd ranked player in the region.

Haverford has now won nine straight matches six different times in school history, the most recent of which came during the 1996 spring season. Dating back to last spring, the Fords have won six straight Centennial Conference regular season matches for the fourth longest such streak in school history. The last time that happened was during the 2014-15 seasons when the team won seven straight conference battles over those two years.

The Fords are one of three remaining unbeaten teams in Centennial Conference matches this spring. Haverford has a combined 33-4 record between singles and doubles during those conference battles, winning nearly 90 percent of those matches. This active team winning streak also includes victories over regionally-ranked Washington College and Franklin & Marshall.

Julia Gan holds a 7-6 overall record in singles dating back to the fall and has played No. 1 in the lineup during each of her matches this spring. During these wins, three times she has completely blanked her opponents with 6-0, 6-0 scores. This includes her first Centennial Conference singles win against Muhlenberg.

Women's tennis will be given its chance to test its talents against the other undefeated teams in the Centennial Conference this weekend. The Fords travel to Swarthmore on Friday for a 4 p.m. match against the No. 8 team in the Atlantic South. On Saturday, Johns Hopkins comes to Haverford for an 11 a.m. match. The Blue Jays are ranked sixth in the region and hold the No. 20 ranking nationally.
