Women’s Tennis Displays Strong Performance to Wrap Up Swarthmore Invite

SWARTHMORE, Pa. -  The Haverford College Women's Tennis team returned to the Faulkner Courts on the campus of Swarthmore College Saturday, for day two of the Swarthmore Invitational. The Fords had a very strong showing picking up 19 total wins out of 22 matches. Haverford picked up nine out of 11 wins vs. Stevens, and won all but one of the 11 matches in the afternoon slate against Franklin & Marshall.

Abbey Russano and Ellie Esterowitz kicked off the Fords' winning ways against Stevens Saturday morning, defeating Stephanie Untermeyer and Alix Dry (8-2). Mimi Lavin and Rachael Fitzgerald continued the winning ways defeating Polina Odintseva and Lorena Piegas (8-5). Emily Oh and Abishree Menon took down Anya Sharma and Isabella Dona (8-2), while Summer Williams and Sriya Krishnan found themselves the victors over Julianna Gomez and Emma Eguia (8-2). Erika Phanord and Annie Barrett closed out the doubles sweep, after they defeated Fionna Flores and Julia Chiovitti (8-5). 

Esterowitz kept up the winning ways in singles action as she defeated Untermeyer (6-0, 6-1). Her doubles partner Russano also picked up a win, defeating Dry (6-1, 6-4). The other singles wins came from Phanord who swept Eguia (6-0, 6-0), and Krishnan who defeated Dona (6-3, 6-3). 

Haverford continued their strong play against Franklin & Marshall Saturday afternoon, starting off with a doubles victory from Russano and Lavin defeating Sophia Rhazali and Rebecca Bellick (8-1). The pairing of Fitzgerald and Oh earned the win over Kakie Colclough and Lorena Saavedra (8-5), while Williams and Phanord defeated Amelia Squires and Skye Victor (8-6). Rounding out the doubles sweep was Menon and Krishnan, who defeated Sarah Miller and Jocelyn Chow (8-2). 

Haverford kept up their dominance in the singles slate, as Lavin picked up her second singles win of the day defeating Rhazali (6-2, 6-2). Fitzgerald picked up the win in her first and only singles contest of the day, defeating Bellick (6-2, 7-5). The Fords then saw a pair of two-set victories as Oh defeated Squires (7-5, 6-4), and Menon defeated Colclough (6-3, 6-2). Rounding out the singles victors was Krishnan, who defeated Chow (6-1, 6-3), and Phanord, who won over Miller (8-1).

Haverford will now conclude their Fall season this weekend, as they take part in the three-day ITA Southeast Regional tournament starting Saturday, September 23rd at the University of Mary Washington.
