ALLENTOWN, Pa. -  The Haverford College women's tennis team (1-0, 1-0 CC), receiving votes in the preseason ITA Coaches Poll, showcased its strength in the Centennial Conference opener at Muhlenberg (2-5, 0-2 CC) on Saturday, securing a convincing 9-0 victory indoors at the Dietrich Field House.

The Fords demonstrated their prowess in doubles right from the start of play.  The top-flight pairing of Haverford's two NCAA participants from the last two seasons, Abbey Russano and Ellie Esterowitz, needed only 25 minutes to defeat Kety Gaidamashvili and Sophie Framm with an 8-0 final score. Abhishree Menon and Emily Oh also teamed up, delivering a flawless performance to blank Taylor Current and Alexandra Downey with an 8-0 score at the third doubles flight.

In the second doubles flight, Mimi Lavin and Rachael Fitzgerald secured an 8-2 victory over Caitlin Bestrycki and Julia Lennon, giving Haverford a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

Transitioning to singles, Summer Williams set the tone with her victory over Framm at the second flight (6-4, 6-1). Erika Phanord then sealed the deal with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 sweep of Bestrycki at the third flight. Emily Oh, playing at number one singles, triumphed over Gaidamashvili with a final score of 6-0, 6-1.

The final three singles flights were played as pro-sets, with Syria Krishnan dispatching Julia Lennon at the fourth flight (8-3), Menon dominating Downey in an 8-0 sweep, and Annie Barrett making her season debut at six singles, taking down Taylor Current in an 8-0 blanking.

With the conference win secured, Haverford now prepares for its annual Spring Break trip to Central Florida, where the Fords will play matches at the USTA National Campus and other courts in the Orlando area. The Fords are set to depart next weekend, with action slated to begin on Monday, March 11.
