Women's Tennis Grounds Trinity, 7-2

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Haverford College women's tennis team (4-1) secured a victory against Trinity, (3-2) 7-2 as action on the spring break trip shifted to the USTA National Campus in the Lake Nona section of Orlando.

The Fords surged ahead heading into singles, propelled by a strong start in doubles. Rachael Fitzgerald and Summer Williams set the tone with an 8-2 victory over Elise Brennan and Naisha Rathi, while Josephine Kimball and Angelina Shyltsyna were outmatched by the Haverford top flight pairing of Abbey Russano and Ellie Esterowitz, who dispatched the Bantams team by an identical 8-2 result. Trinity managed to secure one victory at the second flight, where Allie Francis and Ella Baker clinched an 8-7 (7-2) win over Emily Oh and Mimi Lavin, aided by a tiebreaker.

Entering singles play with momentum, Haverford swiftly accumulated singles victories. The first match concluded with Fitzgerald defeating Baker in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, at the third flight. Lavin then swiftly dispatched Francis at the fourth flight (6-1, 6-4), and Emily Oh sealed the victory at the fifth flight, defeating Brennan in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).

Russano emerged victorious in a third-set superbreaker after splitting the first two sets against Kimball at the top flight (6-2, 3-6, 10-4), while Esterowitz was narrowly edged out by Shyltsyna at the second flight in a match that also required a third-set superbreaker (6-1, 1-6, 10-2).

The final match to conclude on Thursday afternoon was at the sixth flight, where Sriya Krishnan overcame a second-set challenge from Rathi to secure a sweep (6-4, 7-5).

Women's tennis wraps up its competition in Florida on Friday, facing off against No. 25 Denison at noon at the national campus as the Fords aim to secure their third consecutive victory. This contest marks the beginning of four consecutive matches against ranked teams.
