HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team has earned the 25th spot in the inaugural 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) computer rankings, as announced in a release on Wednesday. This ranking marks the highest national ranking in the program's history for the Fords.

The ITA computer rankings are exclusively determined by an algorithm, taking into consideration accumulated win points and loss points. It factors in elements such as win-loss records, strength of schedule, and the significance of victories and defeats. Throughout the season, the value of each win and loss is adjusted to reflect the opponent's most recent ranking.

Alongside the national ranking, Haverford holds the eighth position in the Atlantic Regional Rankings, trailing Emory, Johns Hopkins, Washington & Lee, Carnegie Mellon, Sewanee, Swarthmore, and Mary Washington, while ahead of Christopher Newport and Sweet Briar in the top 10.

Starting the 2024 campaign at 4-2, Haverford concluded the recent spring break stint in Central Florida with a 3-2 record. Senior Abbey Russano earned the title of Centennial Conference Player of the Week following an exceptional week for the Fords. Russano displayed an impressive performance, going 4-1 at No. 1 singles and 5-0 at the top doubles flight, alongside Ellie Esterowitz. Among her victories, Russano triumphed over Peyton Oda of No. 25 Denison, as well as the top flight doubles pairing for the Big Red.

The women's tennis team is now set for a weekend trip to Virginia, featuring matchups against No. 23 Mary Washington and No. 27 Christopher Newport. The clash with the Eagles of Mary Washington is scheduled for 4 p.m. tomorrow.

Following the aforementioned weekend against ranked competitors, the Fords will also compete against No. Johns Hopkins on April 13 and No. 19 Swarthmore on April 17.
